Summary

Atlanta was always a dangerous city。 Now, as waves of magic and technology compete for supremacy, it’s a place caught in a slow apocalypse, where monsters spawn among the crumbling skyscrapers and supernatural factions struggle for power and survival。

Eight years ago, Julie Lennart left Atlanta to find out who she was。 Now she’s back with a new face, a new magic, and a new name—Aurelia Ryder—drawn by the urgent need to protect the family she left behind。 An ancient power is stalking her adopted mother, Kate Daniels, an enemy unlike any other, and a string of horrifying murders is its opening gambit。

If Aurelia’s true identity is discovered, those closest to her will die。 So her plan is simple: get in, solve the murders, prevent the prophecy from being fulfilled, and get out without being recognized。 She expected danger, but she never anticipated that the only man she’d ever loved could threaten everything。

One small misstep could lead to disaster。 But for Aurelia, facing disaster is easy; it’s relationships that are hard。

Late on my review, but I just wanted to share how much I enjoyed this book。 I like it, a lot。 The pace was just right, getting to know old characters after they had time to grow up was great and I loved the way the new plot was presented。 I didn't want the book to end, I just wanted to stay in the chaotic, fantastic and fun world Ilona and Gordon Andrews have created。 Can't wait to be there again! It was okay- I would’ve like to see more interaction with Julie/Aurelia and Derek/Darren, but maybe that is coming in the next book? Too much was left unresolved for their not to be a sequel。 Ilona Andrews always does such a good job with the “slow burn” romance。 As always, I will be happily waiting for the next installment。

I absolutely loved being back in the Kate Daniels universe and I'm over the moon that the authors were inspired to give us a grown up Julie and Derek story。 The new Julie we meet is more than a little different but her thoughts and sassy attitude just made me smile。 Add in really unsavoury bad guys and the will they won't they dynamics between her and Derek and I am a very happy reader who is excited for more but I'm equally happy to wait because I know it will be worth it。 I absolutely loved being back in the Kate Daniels universe and I'm over the moon that the authors were inspired to give us a grown up Julie and Derek story。 The new Julie we meet is more than a little different but her thoughts and sassy attitude just made me smile。 Add in really unsavoury bad guys and the will they won't they dynamics between her and Derek and I am a very happy reader who is excited for more but I'm equally happy to wait because I know it will be worth it。 。。。more

Loved it! Thought it was amazing and hope there will be more! From the way the book ended, it seems like there will be。 I checked their website as soon as I finished the book to see if there was any news。 No news :(

Almost perfect I forgot how much I like these Kate Daniels books。 The first julie and Derek book left me feeling kind of meh, but this one was really good。 Almost perfect My favorite line is: “The things you don’t know or realize are an ocean, and your mind is a tiny boat upon its waves。”

Set in the future, an interesting Fantasy novel that spins a new telling of mythical and biblical beings battling on the streets of Atlanta for family and friends。 A good read。

Kate 2。0 but I like it。 Don’t care if it’s not great。 Over explaining does get annoying。 Will 1000% read the next one。

Despite my general anxiety when a new series is spawned from another series that I love, I can't/won't really wait on anything Ilona Andrews writes。 I'm glad that I picked this up immediately and have read it 5 times since it came out。 It's amazing。 I'm mad at Derek right now, but I'm sure he's got a good reason for being a dick (and he's one of my favorite characters, soooooo。。。。 Despite my general anxiety when a new series is spawned from another series that I love, I can't/won't really wait on anything Ilona Andrews writes。 I'm glad that I picked this up immediately and have read it 5 times since it came out。 It's amazing。 I'm mad at Derek right now, but I'm sure he's got a good reason for being a dick (and he's one of my favorite characters, soooooo。。。。 。。。more

3。5 stars —Aaaaaand we back! We get little snippets of what happened when Julie left Atlanta and it'll be exciting to see what the authors will reveal about her powers (yo, blood magic is so metal!) and Derek's new abilities。 :O A fun read but it felt like it was setup for this new series。 3。5 stars —Aaaaaand we back! First of all, full disclaimer, this book became available to me through my library at quite possibly the WORST possible time。 Since I didn't want to wait another 4 months for it I took it, but I wasn't able to give it my full attention due to issues happening in my personal life。 I tried not to let that impact my review but I do feel I need to give this one a re-read to really see how I feel about it。 This is not my favorite book by Andrews, its good (like all of their books), and I enjoyed it, First of all, full disclaimer, this book became available to me through my library at quite possibly the WORST possible time。 Since I didn't want to wait another 4 months for it I took it, but I wasn't able to give it my full attention due to issues happening in my personal life。 I tried not to let that impact my review but I do feel I need to give this one a re-read to really see how I feel about it。 This is not my favorite book by Andrews, its good (like all of their books), and I enjoyed it, but it definitely falls into the bottom three。 I'm not going to lie, I really struggled through the first 30% or so of this one。 We had to be re-introduced to the characters, the world, get caught up with everyone since this one happens several years after the last Kate Daniels book ends。 There were some updates I really enjoyed, Kate, Curran, and Conlan? Yes! Give me all the updates。 Andrea and Rafael? Yeah, I want to hear it。 Christopher and Barbarus? Ok, I'm interested。 Roman? Uhhh。。。 not so much。 So once we get through introductions and updates to characters that aren't even in this book (still looking at you Roman) we have to be re-introduced to Unicorn Lane, the Honeycomb, the Order, the Guild, the casino。。。 I was bored to tears。 If it had been years since I last read Kate Daniels maybe I would have appreciated it but since I was fresh from that series I didn't。 However, once we get past the updates and into the actual story I started enjoying this one a lot more。 I was interested in the new adversary Moloch and it was fun to be back in the Kate Daniels world。 We meet some fun new characters and see some old ones, but there was one in particular I was really waiting for and he makes an appearance about 60% or so in。 Derek's gone through a lot of changes and this book barely brushed the surface so I'm super excited for the next book and to get into his story。 Though I enjoyed the story it just fell a little flat of my expectations。 The action felt a little flat right up until the end, there were a few moments where I was a little bored, and tbh I wanted more Derek。 However, a lot of this could have just been due to my mood。 Overall, a solid read but again, just not my favorite。 I'm going to give this one a re-read when the second book comes out and see if I feel any different about it the second time around。 。。。more

Julie returns to Atlanta secretly。 She hopes to save Kate's life by altering the future。 Derek and Acsenio are leading characters throughout this book。 What would make it safe enough so Julie could visit Kate? I wouldn’t consider this a romance, so that tag is definitely confusing to me。 I shelved it because of that element plus fantasy and urban fantasy which it definitely is。 The story itself was very complex。 I at times had difficulty keeping up with all of the characters and breeds。

Good start to new seriesI love Ilona and her writing style。 The worlds she builds are amazing。 I was sad when the Kate Daniels series finished but glad to have this one start。 It is not a stand alone book。 There were times that I was lost even having read all the others books before this one。 Left at times feeling like I'd missed a book or two。 Googled series to make sure I hadn't。 Good start to new seriesI love Ilona and her writing style。 The worlds she builds are amazing。 I was sad when the Kate Daniels series finished but glad to have this one start。 It is not a stand alone book。 There were times that I was lost even having read all the others books before this one。 Left at times feeling like I'd missed a book or two。 Googled series to make sure I hadn't。 。。。more

Worth the waitI’ve been waiting for another Kate Daniels book forever。 I hope the next one won’t take so long。 This was well worth the wait。

Carolyn Reynolds

Worth the timeOverall a satisfying read。 The denument with Derek was somewhat abrupt and therefore a little unsatifying。 Perhaps a few more paragraphs would have helped。 The ending is otherwise fine。

I had this on my library tbr for awhile but I just hadn't had the desire to read it until today。 I also realized this series is kind of a sequel series to Ilona Andrew's other series, or atleast set in the same world。 But since this is the first book I've read by Andrew's I was missing a lot of information & I was confused through out 99% of the book but it was still very intriguing & I'm looking forward to the next book。 I had this on my library tbr for awhile but I just hadn't had the desire to read it until today。 I also realized this series is kind of a sequel series to Ilona Andrew's other series, or atleast set in the same world。 But since this is the first book I've read by Andrew's I was missing a lot of information & I was confused through out 99% of the book but it was still very intriguing & I'm looking forward to the next book。 。。。more

The writing team does it again。 I LOVED this book。 I've reread it now at least 3x。 I wasn't sure how I'd feel about an adult Julie, but I am here for it。 I can't wait until the next one is out。 The writing team does it again。 I LOVED this book。 I've reread it now at least 3x。 I wasn't sure how I'd feel about an adult Julie, but I am here for it。 I can't wait until the next one is out。 。。。more

Ilona Andrews has created another action packed urban fantasy that focuses on Kate Daniels adopted daughter, Julie Olsen。 She's changed her name to Aurelia Ryder and returns to Atlanta to protect Kate from certain death。 Ilona Andrews has created another action packed urban fantasy that focuses on Kate Daniels adopted daughter, Julie Olsen。 She's changed her name to Aurelia Ryder and returns to Atlanta to protect Kate from certain death。 。。。more

4。25 stars。man this book makes me want to reread the entire KD series 🤣 (please don't) I kinda wish Julie could've had more of her own personality tho, for now it feels like she just borrow most of the personality from her adoptive mother 😂 Sometimes I even forgot I was not reading one of the KD series books bc of that 🙈 4。25 stars。man this book makes me want to reread the entire KD series 🤣 (please don't) I kinda wish Julie could've had more of her own personality tho, for now it feels like she just borrow most of the personality from her adoptive mother 😂 Sometimes I even forgot I was not reading one of the KD series books bc of that 🙈 。。。more
